Tyler Cameron: Re-Draft Friday: 2015
So 2014 was not a "pretty" draft for Chicago and 2015 doesn't look much better.
On this edition of Re-Draft Friday, we will be looking at a Hawks team who didn't have a 1st round selection as it was traded to Arizona – along with Klas Dahlbeck – for Antoine Vermette.
Back to the draft, the Hawks had 7 picks but as I mentioned above, there was not a 1st rounder in the cards. Let's see how they did. |

Four complete seasons after that draft - and only one NHL game appearance with one minor penalty showing for seven BlackHawk picks.
Even without a first rounder, you’d have looked for something better.
I think two decent TDL moves (to get Vermette and Desjardins), an ok deal to get Anisimov for Saad, considering the situation with the Pittsburgh native (and there was some buzz around Dano at the time)....
The Sharp move was just too late - I’m guessing there were better offers at the draft or right after the July 1 FA date (just guessing) or that there could have been. By July 10, teams had satisfied their needs for whatever Sharp could bring (like with Leddy the year before). I think you need to move fast - get in on the action early - on a July 1. |

It's these guesses that produce silly narratives that over time become truth, to some. The fact is we have no idea if Sharp or Leddy moves were too late or if Bowman had better offers. The trades weren't in Chicago' favour, we can all agree on that, but until Bowman or some other Blackhawk official goes on the record we don't know any of the details behind the trades.

Yes - but - my guesses are logical.
You get more for your product when there’s a market for it. By July 10 (or later for Leddy), the buyers have shopped elsewhere and the market dries up.
It may prove to be an incorrect narrative, but not a silly one. |

A disappointment to be sure, but if you look at this just in terms of the draft, forgetting the trades, while the Hawks seemingly swung and missed on their picks, looking thru all the players selected after Knott at 54 does not produce a list of great players who the Hawks missed on. There are a couple of names that have played a 100 games or so, but no real "hidden gems" |

And here's a big reason why...
. “I’m told Mark Kelley, the Hawks’ director of amateur scouting, is a big fan of the USA players. I won’t say not fond of the Canadian players, but leans toward American-born players." |

This is dumb. I can see being a fan of North American players vs. European but thinking some phantom line on a map we draw makes a difference between US and Canadian players is crazy.
Anyone have Kelly saying this or is this Zawaski bullpoop? |

We had just won a cup, so I'm not going to complain. I hated seeing Sharp leave, on my friggin birthday no less. I had just gotten a St. Patrick's day shirt of him!
From last blog, jhawk59 asked for a link to Meat Loaf. I might be the youngest one here, but I'm sure that dude was more than a one hit wonder. Don't ask me why though, because I hate him! But anyways, here you go. https://youtu.be/k5hWWe-ts2s |

The silly narratives are the result of guesses, logical or otherwise. The board was filled with comments discussing the "guess why Sharp was traded" as fact. Your guess possibly has some logic to it, but we don't know if there was a prior trade on the table that was better from a Hawk perspective, we don't know if another deal was in place to allow the Hawks to keep Sharp, no one on this site knows all the facts so we then discuss speculation as facts.
Remember there were some on this site who claimed, with zero proof, that Sharp was having affairs with seemingly every and anyone and that McD wanted Sharp run out of town for that. Well the fact that Sharp was reacquired proved that nonsensical narrative was complete bogus.
What I really like about Tyler is he doesn't peddle in innuendo, false narrative and made up rumour. I wish more Bloggers and posters would do the same.

Buzzkill.
C'mon Paul, that's half the fun.
And then what would the Board "police" have to slam other posters for?
Plus, you forgot the "tin foil hat" theories.

When the hawks reached for Graham Knott it was ALL based on his being a big guy who MIGHT just get his feet and hands together as he developed.
It was a basic developmental pick...potential, but no guarantees.
I didn't like the selection.
In many drafts there is a profound drop in even the developmental player list...you might not have 50 players on your list, so you just keep looking farther down and when you start getting to no names you look to trade the remaining picks to move up or reload for the next draft.
2015 class looks quite good through the top half and some, though, doesn't it? |

By the way I was using that #22 slot selection of "a pick that could come to the hawks in a trade down by LA" based on the 2015 landing point for Iyla Samsonov to Washington, as my possible drop point for Spencer Knight.
I predicted on JJs podcast that he could go as earlier as Florida if they don't sign a now goalie Sergei Bobrovsky, and have presently and hesitantly dropped him to Ottawa in slot #19 simply because there are is many intriguing players who will see major league promotion before him (unless Florida or some team accelerates his career path by necessity) but even when we were picking at #14 I wondered if the hawks had long term interest.
from Spector's hockey aul Friesen reports the former agent for Jets forward Jack Roslovic denied a report claiming his ex-client requested a trade at least once during this season. “Jack never once asked for a trade,” said Ken Robinson. He explained Roslovic was disappointed in his role earlier this season as a fourth-line center. Despite being recently fired by Roslovic, Robinson went on to praise his former client.

I graduated from HS in 1979, so Meatloaf is right in my wheelbase.
Paradise by the Dashboard Light 1977 - his biggest hit I think
I'd Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That) 1993
Two Out of Three Ain't Bad 1977 - my favorite of his, a great breakup song
Bat out of Hell 1977, was a pretty solid album. |

This is the foundation of HockeyBuzz... speculative rumors used to titillate the audience and drive clicks. At least that’s how EK seems to approach it.
I’ve stopped being offended at much of what I see on the internet - I don’t have enough energy left anymore for the outrage and sanctimony. |

I remember the album art cover for that - it was pretty cool to a kid in grade school - which I was at the time. |
